Zagreb is the capital of The Republic of Croatia. It was known as a settlement before the year 1094, when
the name of the city was for the first time entered into an official document. In 1242 King Bela IV granted the city of Gradec the Golden Bull, a document declaring Zagreb a free royal city. At the time Zagreb stood upon the two neighboring hills, Kaptol and Gradec. Today, being the city with a population of a million, it is the business and academic centre, a town of culture, art, entertainment and sport and many green parks, gardens and walks. It offers its guests the Baroque atmosphere of the Upper Town, lively and pictoresque open air markets, a diversity of shops, a rich selection of craft products and a delicious
local cuisine.
